//TEST EN //Abstract and dark, the sleek volume of the Irregular Bomb sofa is as much sculpture as furniture. An exceptional piece, the fruit of the encounter between an inspired designer and three talented craftsmen.

Inspired by the blocks of lava projected during a volcanic eruption which solidify after their fall, the Irregular Bomb piece consists of an imposing mass of leather with ergonomic and irregular shapes. Its designer, Robert Stadler, imagined it as a diversion, by its padded construction, of the Chesterfield sofa. Playing with the codes of bourgeois comfort, it offers a monolithic form without front or back. The Irregular Bomb sofa is part of the Tephra Formations series of furniture produced in a limited edition by the Carpenters Workshop Gallery.

Designed from miniature models made in modeling clay by Robert Stadler, Irregular Bomb was entirely fashioned using artisanal upholstery techniques thanks to the assistance of Bernadette N'Guyen, Maurice Barnabé and Jean-Paul Mahé from Siegeair. The sofa required the assembly of more than 400 squares of leather of unequal sizes, then stretched over the form before being pocketed in one go with maximum tension, without making folds. "We went to the limit of the possible without tearing the leather", confide the three craftsmen. A real technical challenge, this sofa renews the know-how of upholstery.

“I wanted to erase the designer's hand as if this piece had been shaped by nature, to create an ambiguity between a random appearance and a perfectly drawn shape.”
