In 2010, three ENT surgeons set up the Fondation Pour Audition with funding from Françoise Bettencourt Meyers, Jean-Pierre Meyers and the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation. It aims to become a benchmark in the area of hearing. Recognized as being in the public interest in 2015, it promotes the cause of hearing health.
Serious health and social issues that are still overlooked
The World Health Organization says that one-fourth of the world’s population will be hearing-impaired by 2050. Hearing loss is a powerful isolating factor, causing occupational, psychological and cognitive problems. This situation is often overlooked, especially by the French, and wrongly considered taboo. The Fondation Pour l'Audition brings together everyone involved in hearing. Altruistic, it promotes the well-being of hearing-impaired people. Progressive, it is guided by a spirit of innovation.
Joining forces to advance the cause of hearing
The Fondation Pour l'Audition works in three areas. It aims to accelerate scientific and medical research and innovation. It supports French hearing research laboratories with calls for projects, grants and scientific awards. Its goal is to improve the daily lives of deaf and hearing-impaired people and their families. The non-profit, general-interest organization helps the players and initiatives carrying out this mission or promoting hearing health. The foundation supports calls for projects, awards and field projects. The Fondation Pour Audition works to raise awareness of hearing health and to change people’s thinking about deaf and hearing-impaired people. It carries out prevention and awareness-raising campaigns, especially in companies or at festivals, and educational programs starting in elementary school. It has also developed Höra, the first scientifically validated app to check hearing.
Leading the way
The foundation created the Alliance Pour l’Audition to promote the cause of hearing in all its aspects: fundamental, translational, clinical research, societal advance, prevention and awareness. It federates large-scale projects, including the Institut de l’Audition and the Centres de Recherche en Audiologie. The Alliance Pour l'Audition aims to rally all talents around one goal: to help deaf and hearing-impaired people live better lives.
