La Cloche aims to change our view of homelessness by fostering a sense of community. Since 2014, it has engaged citizens to fight exclusion by connecting with homeless people in their neighborhoods.
Creating a new dynamic of inclusion
According to the Fondation Abbé Pierre, there are 300,000 homeless people in France. Most have had no recent contact with family or friends, while Covid has increased economic and social insecurity. Meanwhile, many citizens do not know what they can do to fight against extreme exclusion.
La Cloche believes that homeless people need social connections to live. It works to change society's view of homelessness with ambitious programs and partnerships.
Concrete initiatives for the most disadvantaged
La Cloche offers inclusive programs and activities in 14 French cities. Le Carillon works with local merchants who provide free access to services (toilets, phone charging), while residents pre-pay for products (sandwiches, coffee, etc.) offered to people who need them. Les Clochettes supports urban projects (community gardens, etc.) to include vulnerable people. The association has also started neighborhood choirs, a web radio station called "Radio Bitume" and a bi-annual magazine that gives a voice to the most disadvantaged. It organizes playful, iconoclastic activities, such as meals prepared by homeless people for neighborhood residents. This is a new way of fostering dialogue and putting a face on the idea of inclusion.
The Foundation’s support
The foundation backs the association’s team-building efforts. Its support contributes to moving the lines of inclusion and helps the most disadvantaged regain self-confidence and dignity.
